Reports to: Youth Enrichment Program Manager

LIFE Camp is seeking a passionate and talented School Coordinator to be part of the Youth Enrichment Team. The School Coordinator will engage with and involve schools in the LIFE Camp catchment area by working with respective principals, school appointed liaison(s), community groups, and LIFE Camp consultants.
The position focuses on creating a welcoming environment for students referred to LIFE Camp programming by the school’s administration. The School Coordinator will identify school and related school/community issues and work with the Youth Enrichment Program Manager and School Liaison(s) to see they are addressed within a timely manner.
Position Responsibilities
● Increase program involvements in the schools
● Serve as the facilitator for school programming and community concerns and issues (i.e. School policies or facilities issues)
● Conducts outreach to engage and encourage parents in their child’s education
● Convene regular meetings and events around topics of key concerns to school programming
● Attend school meetings along with the Youth Enrichment Manager, where appropriate
● Serve as a school liaison for LIFE Camp as directed by the Youth Enrichment Manager
● Maintain ongoing contact with community organizations that are involved with providing services to the school’s LIFE Camp program
● Organize outreach events to increase visibility and involvement
● Carryout other duties as assigned by the Youth Enrichment Manager, and Executive Leadership
Requirements:
● A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work in an area related to the duties described above; OR an Associate’s degree or its educational degree and four years of experience in community work in an area related to the duties described above; or a high school diploma and six years of experience in community work in an area related to the duties described above.
● Familiarity with the the New York City public school system
● Presently or formerly a public school student
● Experience with convening workshops
●Bilingual where there is a significant non-English speaking population
● Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills
● Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
● Conflict resolution and mediation skills
● Experience working with families and schools in education and/or community issues
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
This position will require flexibility with respect to work hours in order to meet the needs of partner schools, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. The position may also require occasional assignment to different work sites specifically during summer months.
